This Chinese silk embroidery features nine red and gold koi fish swimming in a pond of blooming lotus blossoms. In Chinese, the word "fish" in Chinese pronunciation is the same as the word "surplus"; thus, fish have come to symbolize abundance and prosperity in Chinese culture. A small Chinese well-wish delightfully completes the overall composition.
The embroidery is mounted in shadow-box style, where the embroidery rests away from the backing, creating a fascinating impression of light and shadow. The reflective nature of the silk thread also allows the vibrant color tones to glimmer in the light, creating a complex, life-like layering effect of three-dimensional forms. A textured, bevel-cut paper mat beautifully frames the embroidery, providing a museum-like finish. Mounting hooks are included and ready to hang.
Care
For wooden frames, regular dusting may be done with a feather duster or slightly damp microfiber cloth. If using a damp cloth, be sure to remove any excess moisture left behind. For the glass, never use any type of abrasive cleaners or cloths for cleaning, as these can leave scratches. A slightly damp microfiber cloth is sufficient for removing dust and smearing.
