Beautiful low relief chinoiserie of fish swimming in a lotus pond adorn the body of this majestic Qing porcelain jar. The word "fish" in Chinese pronunciation is the same as the word "surplus"; thus, fish have come to symbolize abundance and prosperity in Chinese culture. The matching lid features a sitting foo dog as its handle. The jar is finished in a green celadon glaze. This type of green celadon glazed pottery, also known as green wares, originated from the Zhejiang province in China and eventually spread to other parts of Asia. Celadon wares were once highly prized by the Chinese Imperial court and are still celebrated today among well known interior designers. A timeless work of art, this is perfect to be used as a centerpiece or decorative accent in any contemporary space. Matching wooden stand sold separately, please see RBR080-BLK.
